I think these are working out as well as can be expected. Our business would have difficulty implementing mitigation options other than education since we are a small secondary purchaser at these mills. Partnering with conservation organizations to address and develop educational tools seems like the best way to outreach to both mill log purchasers and log sellers to those mills.
Supply control has worked well for direct purchases as we are able to map the areas of specified risk and have our log buyers trained to identify and mitigate any areas of concern.
Partnerships are the key here to allow the conservation benefit to expand further than one company could provide alone.
